Is it okay to answer your cell phone while sitting on the toilet? Hypothetically speaking, of course! I mean it's not like I'm talking on it at a restaurant, or in a movie theater, or even in a library. It's not a camera phone. It's certainly not a video phone. And I'm not calling out...they called me. I mean...hypothetically, IF someone MIGHT have called me...was it, I mean would it be okay to answer the phone?
If I was still in the military I could say, "I can neither confirm nor deny the fact that I answered my cell phone while sitting on the toilet." After all it was an important call, and I had been having a devil of a time tracking the caller down in their busy schedule, and rather than delay our communication for another week or so, well, there you have it. It wasn't noisy, and they probably didn't even know. They might now if they read this, but oh well...moving along now...
Speaking of the bathroom, it is no longer a place I can escape for a little peace and quiet away from The Two Under Two. My oldest is going to be a card carrying Terrible Two in August. (Or Terrific Two as some say. Yeah, we'll see about that!). At that time I suppose he'll be allowed to act the way he already has been. Um Hmm! So anyway, the soon to be two-yr-old is now knocking, sticking his fingers under the door, and jiggling the doorknob while I'm in there. Look, I already talk to my wife through the door when I'm in there. Now I have NO privacy at all! Whatever...
So,FYI, I patched it up with The Wife. I'm going to try to listen more, and she's going to try to not bring up old issues. Forgiveness is a wonderful thing. Hug hug, kiss kiss, it's all good.
But a surprising side effect of our not so little argument is that I actually WANTED to ride my bike downtown again. I know, it kinda shocked me too. But really, I never noticed how quaint downtown Des Moines was before. You know how it is, you hate driving downtown because of all the stoplights. (Except when it's winter and the trees are all lit up with Christmas lights). And usually I'm trying to pay attention to my driving and not the scenery I happen to be passing. But riding a bike downtown is completely different. I can appreciate the beauty of the architecture on Walnut Avenue. I can enjoy all the flowers and trees that line the downtown streets. And I can take a closer look at all the artwork.
I have no idea why Des Moines has so many sculptures within the city limits, but it does. I need to see if there is some kind of sculpture tour you can take. New stuff, corny stuff, funny stuff. It's got it all. One example: driving on Locust Avenue from the Airport, you see a giant spade, the funky windmills outside the library, Robinson Crusoe's Umbrella, some funky looking metal thing, and a life size scupture of a dog taking a pee on the side of the road. All before you get to the Capitol. In these two days I have really fallen in love with my city. I never realized how great it was. Sniff, sniff, where's my tissue...Seriously though. Des Moines has it all, and I get to enjoy it for as long as I'm here.
Well, better get back to the grind. I have to figure out if the project I started is eliible for any grant money. Until next time, see you later!
